Owning a motor vehicle in the Philippines comes with responsibilities. For one, you need to prove that you’re in a good physical and mental state. That way, you won’t run the risk of causing accidents or problems while on the road.
For that matter, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) strictly requires a medical certificate from motor vehicle owners. But what exactly is an LTO medical certificate? Where can you find a list of LTO-accredited medical clinics?
You’ll learn about that and more in this guide.
What is an LTO Medical Certificate?
Simply put, a medical certificate is a document required by the LTO that proves you’re physically and mentally healthy to drive a motor vehicle. It shows you're not afflicted with any condition that may affect your driving. It also helps the LTO determine the kind of restriction to put on your driver’s license.
👉 Who Needs to Get an LTO Medical Certificate?
Those applying for a student driver’s license, non-professional driver’s license, and professional driver’s license are all required to provide the said document. Likewise, those renewing their license need to submit a medical certificate.

👉 Why Do I Need an LTO Medical Certificate?
The LTO medical certificate isn’t an optional requirement. It’s a mandatory document, which means you need to submit it to the LTO. Otherwise, you won’t be able to get your new driver’s license or a renewed one.
Still, don’t think of medical certificate submission as a mere form of compliance. Think of it as your duty to help make public roads safe for everyone.
👉 What are the Tests Covered in the LTO Medical Exam?
The medical exam for a driver’s license covers various tests, such as the following:
- Drug test
- Hearing test
- Speech test
- Eye test
- Examination for disabilities and certain diseases
- Blood pressure test
👉 How Much is the LTO Medical Exam?
Before, LTO clinics used to charge applicants between ₱500 to ₱700.
But due to complaints, the LTO set a cap on medical exams. Now, an LTO medical exam should cost just around ₱300.
LTO clinics proven to overcharge applicants will face sanctions, such as suspension and a fine.[1]
👉 What’s the Validity of an LTO Medical Certificate?
An LTO medical certificate is valid for only 15 days after it is issued.[2]
Where to Get a Medical Certificate for Your LTO Driver's License
To get a medical certificate, you need to undergo an LTO medical exam at an accredited medical clinic.
You can find a complete list of LTO-accredited medical clinics on the LTO’s official website.[3] But to make things easier for you, below is a list of such clinics in Metro Manila.

List of LTO-Accredited Medical Clinics: FAQs
Still got questions regarding the LTO medical exam and accredited clinics? Check out the following:
1. Do I have to undergo succeeding medical examinations after I receive my driver’s license?
Previously, those who had their driver’s license were required to undergo a periodic medical examination or PME. Depending on the validity of their license, they would have to undergo four to five medical exams up to renewal.
Fortunately, the LTO announced in 2023 that driver’s license holders aren’t required to undergo the PME anymore. Those who hold licenses with five-year and ten-year validity will be only required to undergo a medical examination 60 days before or on the specified renewal date.[4]
2. Are foreigners required to get an LTO medical certificate?
Yes. The same rules apply to foreigners.
3. Can those with minor sight/eye issues get a driver’s license?
Applicants with certain eyesight issues may be allowed to drive. However, the LTO will impose specific restrictions based on your medical result.
4. Do LTO clinics operate on weekends?
That will depend on the clinic. Before you visit on a weekend, get in touch with the clinic and ask if they can process your appointment.
5. The nearest LTO-accredited medical clinic is closed. What should I do?
If that’s the case, you can always go to another accredited medical clinic. You have a lot of choices—just take a look at the list above or visit the official LTO website for the complete catalog.
